ACCESS is currently hiring for a Massachusetts Promise Fellow position. Please assist us in spreading the word amongst your networks. This position is a full time position to help build capacity for their Lawrence Financial Aid Advisor. They are looking for someone with connections to Lawrence.

ACCESS is committed to its mission of ensuring that every young person has the financial information and resources necessary to find an affordable path to-and through-a postsecondary education. Founded in Boston in 1985, ACCESS has grown to become the city’s leading provider of financial aid advising and its largest scholarship provider. In 2011, ACCESS expanded to Lawrence and the Community Engagement Fellow will support the expansion and growth of programming in this new city. The Fellow will develop and execute an advising and outreach plan with a select group of 4 community partners to offer after-school financial aid services as well as provide one-on-one advising to a cohort of students within the Lawrence High School complex one day a week.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Conduct workshops focusing on the financial aid process and provide after-school one-on-one financial aid advising with 7th-12th grade students at community partner organizations
  • Host FAFSA and financial aid events
  • Conduct parent nights
  • Collaborate on a city-wide awareness campaign around FAFSA completion
  • Assess the readiness of organizations to implement Early Awareness programming
  • Provide high school advising for seniors at Business Management & Finance High School
  • Collect data on interactions with cohort of students
  • Travel once a month to advisor staff meeting
  • Travel at least once/month to Fellowship meetings, retreats, and training throughout the Commonwealth

Qualifications

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • The ability to work independently
  • An interest in and commitment to national and community service
  • Experience working with youth
  • The desire to work with diverse constituencies
  • Flexibility and a sense of humor
  • Ability to see the big picture without losing sight of the details
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills
  • Professional and mature
  • BA/BS required
  • Bilingual applicants are strongly encouraged to apply (Spanish and English)
  • Access to a car required
  • Some evening and weekend service required
  • Must a United States citizen, United States national or lawful permanent resident of the United States
  • Must be willing to comply with a criminal background check and FBI fingerprint check

About pavelpayano

Pavel Payano graduated with a BA from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2006. After graduation he became the Outreach Director of the Massachusetts Democratic Party. He served in this role until 2007 when he joined the staff of Congresswoman Tsongas becoming her Special Assistant and Immigration Specialist. In June 2011 he graduated from the University of Massachusetts Boston with a Masters of Science in Public Affairs. Mr. Payano is an active member of the Lawrence community; in 2010 he co-founded the Greater Lawrence Young Professionals Network, an organization that hopes to bridge the gap between local government, business leaders and young professionals who care about the development and well being of the greater Lawrence communities. He is also serving his second term as a Lawrence School Committee member.
